Mizoram: Kingpin of transnational drug syndicate; 7 others arrested by NCB-CRPF

New Delhi, Dec 4 (LatestNewsX) – In a combined operation by the Narcotic Control Bureau and the Central Reserve Police Force, officials seized 5.9 kg of methamphetamine near Aizawl, Mizoram, and apprehended eight members of a transnational drug ring, including its boss Jabrul Hoque, announced an NCB spokesperson on Thursday.

Hoque, who lives in Karimganj, Assam, was taken into custody the day before, the official added. He is regarded as a repeat trafficker, with three active cases already registered against him, one of which was pending at Dharmanagar Police Station in Tripura while he was on bail.

Initial investigations suggest the meth was smuggled across the India‑Myanmar border near Champhai, then moved toward Sonamura in Tripura with the aim of further distribution into Bangladesh.

This arrest follows another significant blow to a drug network by the NCB within the past 15 days. Earlier this month, Abu Saleh Md. Saifuddin alias Mitu, another member of the same syndicate, was apprehended in Guwahati on 20 November; he also faces multiple drug‑trafficking charges.

The agency cited the opening of a new regional office in Guwahati as a key step in improving real‑time intelligence sharing and operational coordination with state authorities. Additional zonal units now operate in Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh), Siliguri (West Bengal), and Agartala (Tripura), while field offices have been established in Aizawl and Dimapur, the statement said.

Since the launch of the Agartala Zonal Unit in January 2024 and the activation of the Aizawl Field Office in February, the NCB’s footprint in Mizoram has expanded markedly. These efforts have led to the seizure of 256 kg of meth, 2.2 kg of heroin, and the filing of 13 NDPS cases that resulted in 46 arrests over the last two years.

Stronger cooperation between the NCB, central intelligence agencies, and state police has produced large recoveries of meth and heroin shipments smuggled along the India‑Myanmar corridor in the Northeast.

To coordinate efforts among central and state agencies in the region, the NCB hosted a two‑day Regional ANTF Conference in Dimapur on 13–14 November. State‑level Joint Coordination Committee meetings were also held in Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Tripura to enhance collaboration for deeper investigations into drug syndicates.
