‘Criminal illegal alien’ mom of Karoline Leavitt’s nephew seen being detained by ICE outside Mass. condo: video

A new, dramatic clip has surfaced that captures the exact moment ICE officers seized Bruna Carolina Ferreira, the mother of White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt’s nephew, outside her Massachusetts condominium last month.

According to footage released by TMZ, Ferreira was trying to drive out of the parking lot at her complex in Revere—about five miles northeast of downtown Boston—when a cluster of at least five unmarked cars parked around her silver sedan. She was wearing a gray hoodie and black leggings when the officers took her into custody without any scuffle, after which the vehicle convoy pulled away.

Ferreira, a Brazilian national who entered the country on a B‑2 tourist visa that expired on June 6, 1999, has an 11‑year‑old son that she shares with Leavitt’s older brother, Michael. The siblings had previously been engaged and share joint custody of the child. Michael later remarried and has another son.

After her detainment, Ferreira was transferred to the South Louisiana ICE Processing Center in the remote town of Basile, where she is now facing removal proceedings. Her lawyer, Todd Pomerleau, called the arrest “unlawful” and noted that the officers were masked and in unmarked vehicles, with no warrant in view—tactics he says are increasingly common.

“This is targeted, unconstitutional depravity,” Pomerleau said. “A single mother who runs two businesses and was simply waiting for her green card—like tens of thousands of others—now finds herself locked up in a for‑profit prison in Louisiana, cut off from her child just before the holidays.”

The Department of Homeland Security labeled Ferreira a “criminal illegal alien,” citing a prior arrest on suspicion of battery, although Massachusetts records of such an incident were not immediately available.

Michael Leavitt, who spoke with New Hampshire television station WMUR last week, explained that although Ferreira kept a relationship with his son, the boy had lived with him since birth. Karoline Leavitt, who became the youngest White House press secretary at 28, reportedly has had no contact with Ferreira in many years.

Pomerleau also told TMZ that Ferreira and the nephew had lived together until the boy reached kindergarten, and that she was on her way to pick him up from school when she was detained. He added that “Bruna had no problem whatsoever with the Leavitt family. Karoline is her son’s godmother, chosen over her own sister, and Michael Sr. is a very good father … This is appalling. We look forward to her day in court.”
