CM Fadnavis dismisses Oppn’s charge of Maha govt neglecting farmers & state heading to bankruptcy

Nagpur, Dec 7 (LatestNewsX) – Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis denied the opposition’s claim that his government has ignored farmers hit by rain and floods. He also rebuffed accusations that the state is in danger of bankruptcy, warning that Maharashtra’s economy remains robust when measured by key indicators.

The CM spoke to reporters after convening the cabinet and hosting the customary tea meeting that preceded the state’s winter session, which runs from Monday onward. Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, he noted that almost nine‑tenth of the state’s farmers—about 90 lakh—have already received financial assistance, and that a further 12 lakh who were facing KYC hurdles will soon be helped.

He said, “The Opposition, which has skipped the customary tea meeting, should have made charges against the state government on farmers’ issues after proper study,” and added that the government has already disbursed aid amounting to ₹10 000 to farmers affected by floods across Maharashtra.

“ The state government is prepared to discuss all issues flagged off by the Opposition,” he insisted.

Addressing concerns about the brief winter session slated for Dec 8‑14, he explained that the schedule was finalized at early‑week Business Advisory Committee meetings largely to accommodate the Model Code of Conduct for local body elections underway.

When asked about the opposition’s allegations that the delay in appointing Leaders of the Opposition in the assembly and council was cause for concern, CM Fadnavis clarified that decisions would be made by the Legislative Council Chairman and the Assembly Speaker in a manner satisfactory to the government.

He remarked that “The Opposition is directionless and they lack willingness to pursue the issues. The press conference addressed by the Opposition was filled up with frustration,” and criticized them for mistrusting courts, the Election Commission, and other constitutional bodies while focusing their criticism solely on the government.

The state government plans to table 18 bills during the upcoming winter session. He clarified that Deputy CM Ajit Pawar was unable to attend the cabinet and tea meeting in Nagpur because he had just returned from Bahrain and faced travel disruptions. However, he will join the state on Sunday and participate fully in the upcoming session starting Dec 8.

Deputy CM Shinde reaffirmed that the government would address Vidarbha’s concerns adequately and described the opposition as being in a state of complete disarray, unable even to muster enough members in the assembly to secure the Leader of the Opposition post.

He also projected that the ruling MahaYuti alliance would secure roughly 70‑75 seats out of 264 seats in the Nagar Parishad and Nagar Panchayat elections. While not naming Chief Uddhav Thackeray directly, Shinde criticized the former chief minister’s attacks on the current government, urging him instead to reflect on his own actions before launching criticism.
