Mumbai, Dec 8 – Actress Kritika Kamra spoke to LatestNewsX about her upcoming role in Anusha Rizvi’s film “The Great Shamshuddin Family.” She highlighted how rare and meaningful it is to be the focus of a story crafted by a strong, fearless female writer.
When the script first landed on her desk, Kamra was taken by the depth and honesty of the characters. “Being at the centre of a story written by a woman, especially someone as sharp, thoughtful and fearless as Anusha is a privilege I deeply value,” she remarked. She added that the movie breaks away from typical stereotypes, allowing women on screen to be complex, funny, vulnerable, assertive and flawed all at once.
Set in a single day in Delhi, the plot follows Bani as cousins, aunts, mothers and former lovers flood her flat with their crises. The narrative explores interfaith tensions, generational rifts and family expectations, ultimately forcing Bani to choose between global career prospects or staying with her kin, Variety reports.
The cast includes veteran star Farida Jalal, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Juhi Babbar Soni and Sheeba Chadda. Kamra said working with such a talented female crew—both behind and in front of the camera—made the film especially meaningful. “Sharing screen space with legends like Farida ji and Dolly ji and performing with phenomenal actors like Sheeba ma’am, Juhi and Shreya has been a learning experience I will always cherish,” she said.
She expressed confidence in the film’s warmth and heart, noting it offers a powerful, honest look at womanhood and identity. “I’m proud to be part of a narrative that celebrates complexity, womanhood and identity in such an honest way,” Kamra added.
“The Great Shamshuddin Family” will stream on JioHotstar starting 12 December. dc/
