Utah dad accused of stabbing sex offender over 17 times after he ‘made comments’ about his daughter

A man named Thad James Gurule, 32, was taken to Carbon County Jail on Monday on charges of attempted murder after police responded to a Wellington house where a blood‑stained figure was seen on the porch. Police say the suspect stabbed a registered sex offender 17 times after the offender made remarks about Gurule’s daughter.
Emergency crews found the victim near the front of the house with 17 stab wounds. He lived, but the police haven’t released details about his health. When the victim spoke to officers later, he said he didn’t know Gurule personally but had met him at a post office a few days earlier.
Gurule, who later told investigators that he had confronted the man after the offender had criticized his daughter, admitted to the attack. He also claimed he wanted to protect his daughter, according to a police statement citing KUTV.
When authorities searched Gurule’s home they seized drug paraphernalia and found marijuana and methamphetamine, adding further drug charges to the case.
