Goa fire: 2 Delhi brothers who own club left for Phuket within 5 hours of tragedy

New Delhi, Dec 8 (LatestNewsX) – The two Luthra brothers, who ran the Goa club where a fire took 25 lives, are believed to have fled to Phuket, Thailand, just five hours after the blaze, according to a Goa police officer on Monday. While investigators were still tracking the pair, teams from Goa scoured Delhi, posting notices on the roofs and walls of the brothers’ homes. The police have asked the CBI to launch an Interpol request for the owners of “Birch by Romeo Lane.” The brothers reportedly boarded an IndiGo flight at 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning to skip any arrest or questioning following the midnight inferno. A Look‑Out Circular was issued later that evening, hours after the flight. On Monday, a transit remand was obtained for Bharat Kohli, who was in Delhi, to bring him to Goa, the state where the tragedy unfolded.
An Anjuna police officer said the post‑mortem examinations were wrapped up on Monday, after which the victims’ bodies were handed over to their families. The club fire claimed 25 souls, including four tourists and fourteen staff members, while the identities of seven victims are still pending confirmation. Six people were injured and are receiving medical care. The “Birch By Romeo Lane” venue is tucked near the Arpora River’s backwaters and has a tight entrance and exit—explained a police source—contributing to the difficulty of escaping. The fire sparked around midnight in the bustling Baga area, a hotspot close to one of Goa’s busiest beaches.
Meanwhile, four men linked to the case were taken before the Bardez District Court late Sunday night, and the court ordered six days of police custody for all four managers. They remain in the Anjuna lock‑up and have endured nearly eight hours of questioning about the fire and the missing owners. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow this Sunday and announced an ex‑gratia payment of ₹ 2 lakh for each victim’s family and ₹ 50,000 for those injured. Police investigators suspect the blaze was triggered by a cylinder explosion within the club.
