Cillian Murphy, the star who wowed everyone as Oppenheimer, has just shut down those exciting rumors about him stepping into the shoes of Harry Potter’s most feared villain, Lord Voldemort. Fans have been buzzing about the Irish actor joining the upcoming Harry Potter TV series as the dark wizard, but Murphy set the record straight during a fun chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.
“No, my kids show me it occasionally, but no, I don’t know anything about that,” Murphy said, laughing off the speculation. He gave major props to Ralph Fiennes, the original Voldemort from the Harry Potter movies, calling him “an absolute acting legend.” Murphy added, “It’s really hard to follow anything Ralph Fiennes does. Good luck to whoever is going to fill those shoes!” As a cheeky nod to Voldemort’s signature look, he joked, “I’m very attached to my nose,” poking fun at the character’s creepy, slit-like nostrils.
It’s worth noting that Fiennes himself had thrown his support behind Murphy for the role. In an earlier interview with Variety, the veteran actor said, “Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian.” Fiennes first brought Voldemort to life in the 2005 blockbuster Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, then returned for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, plus the two parts of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He even told Variety he’d be open to playing the character again if asked, saying there’s “no question about it.”
Still, Warner Bros. Television hasn’t spilled the beans on who will actually play He Who Must Not Be Named in the new series. Set to premiere in 2027, this Harry Potter TV reboot already has some big names locked in: Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The cast also includes actors for fan favorites like Dumbledore, Snape, Hagrid, and McGonagall.
With the Harry Potter TV series heating up, it’ll be thrilling to see who lands the iconic Voldemort role next. Stay tuned for more updates on this magical comeback!
