Chinese national sent back from Kashmir after visiting J&K, Ladakh in violation of FRRO rules

Srinagar, Dec 11 (LatestNewsX) – Police in Srinagar reported that a Chinese traveler was denied entry and immediately handed back to the authorities after violating FRRO rules by visiting Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The man, 29‑year‑old Hu Congtai, had already been flagged for entering the Union Territory without a valid visa. “The 29-year-old Chinese national, Hu Congtai, was put on emergency exit and sent back from the Srinagar airport yesterday after he was blacklisted for violating the FRRO rules,” police said. He had flown into India on a tourist visa on November 19 and checked into a budget homestay in Friends Colony, Budgam district, a few days earlier. A review of his documents revealed that his visa was limited only to cities such as Varanasi, Agra, New Delhi, Jaipur, Sarnath, Gaya and Kushinagar, and did not cover Jammu & Kashmir or Ladakh. After a preliminary inquiry, authorities routed him back to Delhi on an Air India Express flight that Wednesday. During his brief stay in Srinagar, Hu was questioned at the Humhama Police Station for two days, and his mobile phone, still registered with an Indian SIM, raised further concerns. Prior to traveling, he claimed to have read extensively about Kashmir and Ladakh, even watching films such as “Article 370,” and said he had visited sites including the Shankaracharya hills, Hazratbal shrine, Mughal Gardens, the Buddhist site at Harwan and the ruins at Awantipora. His first sign of trouble came when he crossed into Ladakh’s Zanskar valley on November 25, violating his restricted visa. He had already visited the listed Indian cities and had flown into India on November 19 on a tourist visa. sq/svn/dpb
