Jitu Patwari hits out at CM Mohan Yadav-led MP govt of selling properties to repay bank loans

Bhopal, Dec 11 – Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari slammed the BJP government led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, saying it has been selling state assets to cover the growing debt accumulated over the past two decades.
Patwari pointed out that out‑of‑state public properties have also been sold in the last two years, and he warned that the mounting loans have stalled the state’s economy. He claimed the BJP has sold 101 state properties worth a total of ₹1,100 crore, plus two assets in Mumbai and one in Kerala, during its 22‑year rule.
The party leader reiterated that the state keeps borrowing to pay interest on earlier loans, and added that the BJP has started liquidating properties located outside Madhya Pradesh. He spoke to the press at the Congress office on Thursday.
Patwari also noted that farmers in Madhya Pradesh are dying in line for fertilizers and that the government is spending nearly ₹21 lakh per day on chartered aircraft and helicopters under Chief Minister Yadav’s tenure.
The remarks came during the Winter session of the state assembly when Congress MLAs Pratap Grewal and Pankaj Upadhyay raised questions a few days earlier. “People of Madhya Pradesh voted for the BJP to be served, not to sell state assets for luxury,” Patwari said. “As the opposition, Congress constantly raises alarms to wake the public. The current debt may seem manageable now, but it will exact a heavy price in the future, and people must understand that.”
According to a government report presented in the assembly, Madhya Pradesh’s debt has ballooned 16 times over 22 years, rising from ₹20,000 crore to ₹4.64 lakh crore. Today the state pays about ₹27,000 crore every year just in interest.
