Shivraj Patil’s demise a huge loss for country and Congress: Telangana CM

On December 12 in Hyderabad, Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy shared his heartfelt sorrow over the passing of former Union Home Minister, former Lok Sabha Speaker and seasoned Congress leader Shivraj Patil.

He said he was deeply saddened that Shivraj Patil had left us, calling it a serious blow to both the nation and the Congress party. Reddy offered his deepest sympathies to the family and urged the public to remember Patil’s long service.

Reddy recalled that the late leader began his political journey as a local body representative, was elected to the Lok Sabha on seven different occasions, and also served as Governor of Punjab.

B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), expressed deep sorrow at Patil’s death, noting that the former Union Minister’s unwavering commitment had left a lasting impact.

“The TPCC chief said, “Shivraj Patil’s dedicated services in the Cabinets of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and Dr Manmohan Singh will be remembered forever. Heartfelt condolences to his family and well‑wishers. May his soul rest in peace,” Goud added.

IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said Patil’s death was a significant loss to public life in India, noting that as a former Home Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker and Punjab Governor he had served the nation with dignity and unwavering commitment. “Leaders like him strengthened institutions through quiet integrity and responsible public service. My heartfelt condolences to his family and all who were inspired by his long and distinguished career,” Sridhar Babu posted on X.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of former Union Minister and senior Congress leader Shivraj Patil ji. His long and remarkable journey in public life, including the key roles he played in the Cabinets of Indira Gandhi ji, Rajiv Gandhi ji, and Dr Manmohan Singh ji, will always be remembered with respect.” He added, “His demise is a profound loss to the Congress Party and to the nation. I pray for eternal peace for his soul. My heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family members and well‑wishers.”

Shivraj Patil died on Friday morning at his hometown of Latur in Maharashtra, after a brief illness. According to family sources, the 90‑year‑old passed away at his residence “Devghar.” He leaves behind his son Shailesh Patil, daughter‑in‑law Archana – a BJP leader – and two granddaughters. m/s/uk
