Bengal Guv gives 3 suggestions to Trinamool govt to prevent disruption of SIR & ensure BLOs safety

In Kolkata on Friday, West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose pressed the state government to safeguard the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and protect the booth‑level officers (BLOs) carrying out the voter‑revision work.

The governor reminded authorities that a recent Supreme Court ruling makes it the state’s duty to ensure the safety of BLOs and to keep the SIR running smoothly. In a statement from the Governor’s office, he cited the apex court’s warning that “anarchy cannot be allowed” and that any threat or obstruction faced by BLOs would be taken very seriously. He therefore urged the government to set up a mechanism that would prevent both any intimidation of BLOs and any disruption of the essential SIR process.

His first suggestion was that district administrations should give booth‑level security to BLOs in villages, towns and cities. The second was to task state police with deploying adequate personnel to accompany BLOs during their enumeration missions. The final recommendation called for the provision of basic facilities so that BLOs could perform their duties without hindrance.

The SIR has drawn complaints that the Trinamool Congress is pressuring BLOs to comply with the ruling party’s agenda. Opposition leader Suvendu Adhkari has accused district magistrates and electoral officers of steering BLOs toward the party’s interests.
