No groupism among us, all 140 MLAs only belong to Congress group: Shivakumar

Belagavi, Dec 12 (LatestNewsX) – Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar told reporters on Friday that there is no factionalism among the party cadre in the state. He emphasised that all 140 MLAs, himself and the Chief Minister included, belong solely to the Congress group.

When the press asked about the recent dinner meeting, Shivakumar dismissed any notion that it was a power display. “I’m not showing off any strength, and I don’t need to,” he said. He clarified that the gathering was organised by his friend Doddanavar, who has been hosting the party for the past 15 years. “We went there for dinner out of respect for the family,” he added.

Shivakumar pointed out that members of his constituency often bring food – such as ragi mudde and saaru – and that the party would not refuse such hospitality. “They invite affectionately. We eat at different places each day. A boy from my constituency offered to send ‘ragi mudde’ and ‘saaru,’ and how could we say no? Tomorrow, senior leaders Asif Seth and Firoz Seth have invited us for dinner,” he remarked.

Regarding the Chief Minister’s son, MLC Yathindra, Shivakumar said the Chief Minister would answer any questions.

On political developments, the Deputy Chief Minister announced he will travel to Delhi on December 13 to join protests against alleged voter fraud. He noted that Rahul Gandhi has spearheaded the fight against electoral malpractices in Karnataka, citing the 2023 Chilume scandal that led to complaints filed with the Election Commission together with AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala. “After that case, we won the Assembly elections,” he said.

Shivakumar added that Rahul Gandhi has recently presented evidence of voter theft during the Lok Sabha elections, warning that the Election Commission has become a tool of a particular party. He congratulated all workers and leaders for gathering 1.43 crore signatures in a statewide campaign on the issue.

Lastly, he confirmed that the state government has taken necessary steps to safeguard Bengaluru’s reputation as it plans to host cricket matches at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
