Hate‑laden writing—a swastika plus slurs aimed at several ethnic groups—was discovered scrawled on an interior wall of NYU’s Bern Dibner Library at 4 MetroTech Center in downtown Brooklyn this week, according to police. The defacing was captured in a photo posted on Instagram by a campus Jewish group, showing pen‑stamped lines such as “F–k Jews” and “F–k Indians.” Officers report that the vandalism also included anti‑Black remarks. A 53‑year‑old woman noticed the graffiti and called the authorities at roughly 10 a.m. on Wednesday. NYU’s Vice President for Global Campus Safety, Fountain Walker, condemned the act, noting that the NYPD has classified the incident as a hate crime and that the university will impose “the full weight” of its disciplinary actions. He added, “The abhorrent graffiti included hateful rhetoric directed at Blacks, hateful rhetoric directed at Indians and hateful antisemitic rhetoric,” and that campus safety, together with the Title VI coordinator, is “vigorously investigating” the case.
