Brahmanandam Shares His Life Story in New Autobiography
Renowned comedian and actor Brahmanandam has won hearts worldwide with his hilarious performances and clever storytelling. From humble beginnings to becoming a Telugu cinema icon, his journey inspires many. On Friday, September 12, his autobiography Me and Main launched in New Delhi at the FCC Auditorium. Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu released the book, calling it a treasure of honest insights.
Brahmanandam opened up to about why he wrote the book. "As a famous comedian, young artists often ask me how to succeed like me," he said. "They face tough challenges and need guidance. I wrote this to share my struggles and help them build confidence." The autobiography dives deep into his life lessons, blending hard work with a touch of divine luck. It’s perfect for aspiring comedians and fans curious about Brahmanandam’s success secrets.
His film career kicked off in 1987 with Aha! Naa Pellanta!!, directed by Jandhyala. His breakout role as Ara Gundu stole the show and launched his stardom. Since then, he’s starred in hits like Vivaha Bhojanambu (1988), Jagadeka Veerudu Atiloka Sundari (1990), Anaganaga Oka Roju (1997), Bavagaru Bagunnara (1998), Manmadhudu (2002), and Dhee (2007). His comic timing has earned him the Guinness World Record for the most screen credits by a living actor. In 2024, he thrilled fans with a role in the sci-fi blockbuster Kalki 2898 AD, which he described as an amazing chance to shine.
At the launch, Brahmanandam credited inspiring figures for motivating him to pen the book. "People like Venkaiah Naidu, who rose from a farmer’s family to Vice President, Babasaheb Ambedkar, Abdul Kalam, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi—they all struggled and soared high," he shared. "Their stories pushed me to write mine."
Born into a poor family in Andhra Pradesh, Brahmanandam followed his father’s dream by becoming a teacher. His dad was a schoolteacher who hoped his son would teach too. Brahmanandam earned a Master’s in Arts and worked as a Telugu lecturer in Attili, West Godavari district. But acting called him. "With God’s grace, I switched to films," he recalled. He honed his skills in theatre and mimicry, making his TV debut in 1985 on DD Telugu’s Pakapakalu. That caught Jandhyala’s eye, leading to his big-screen entry.
Today, Brahmanandam remains a powerhouse in Telugu cinema, blending laughs with thoughtful moments. His wit and timing have influenced generations of actors. He’s bagged Nandi Awards, Filmfare Awards, and the prestigious Padma Shri in 2009—India’s fourth-highest civilian honor.
Venkaiah Naidu praised the book at the event. "Writing an autobiography takes guts—you must reveal the truth," he said. "Brahmanandam did it to guide the youth. I’m proud to launch it." Fans and comedy lovers can’t wait to grab a copy and dive into the life of this legendary funnyman.
