Delhi Police Nab Woman for Using Fake Instagram Accounts to Defame Colleague

In a shocking case of online harassment in Delhi, the North District’s Cyber Police Station has arrested a 22-year-old woman from Old Delhi. She allegedly created fake Instagram accounts to impersonate a fellow teacher and upload morphed, objectionable images aimed at ruining her reputation.

The trouble started when a 25-year-old teacher from a government-aided school in Delhi filed a complaint. She discovered that someone had made bogus Instagram profiles in her name, posting edited photos and sending follow requests to her students and colleagues. The goal? To spread false rumors and damage her image.

What made it even worse was the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. The fake images showed the teacher in compromising situations with a man, all fabricated to look real. Delhi Police quickly registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act, kicking off a thorough cyber crime investigation.

A sharp team from the Cyber Police Station jumped into action. Led by Sub-Inspector Hanshul Gupta, with Head Constable Mohit and Head Constable Preeti Jha, they worked under Inspector Rohit Gahlot (SHO of the station) and ACP Hemant Kumar Mishra from the Operations Cell. The cops dug deep into Instagram’s technical data—like IP logs, registered emails, and mobile numbers—to track down the culprit.

Their efforts paid off. They identified the accused as a former contractual teacher at the same school, who quit her job back in 2022. During questioning, she first tried to play innocent, even roping in her students to claim she was also a victim of fake accounts. But solid digital evidence—like proof of her creating the profiles, editing photos, and sharing fake videos—cracked her story.

In a stunning confession, the woman revealed her motive: a twisted obsession with her ex-mentor, who’s now the school’s Principal. She had tried everything to get his attention, from making fake videos pretending she had cancer to even staging her own death. When that flopped, she lashed out at the complainant teacher, whom she thought was getting close to the Principal.

It gets weirder. Police found three handwritten notes in her possession, filled with odd symbols, numbers, and the names of herself and the Principal. They suspect she turned to occult practices in her desperate quest for revenge. This Instagram impersonation case highlights the dark side of social media misuse and AI deepfakes, showing how cyber police are cracking down on such threats in India.
