Nick Reiner due in court for parents’ murders day after he was a no-show

Nick Reiner, the son of famous filmmaker Rob Reiner, will be back in a Los Angeles courtroom this Wednesday. He’s expected to answer charges for killing both of his parents, after missing the previous hearing because of medical matters.

The 32‑year‑old, who was officially charged with the fatal stabbing of his mother, Michele, and his father, Rob, at their home on Sunday, is scheduled to make his initial appearance at Los Angeles Municipal Court on Tuesday, though he did not show up.

Prosecutors warned that if he is found guilty, Nick could face the death penalty.

Reiner’s legal team explained that his absence was “just a procedural issue” because he had “not been medically cleared” to attend. Alan Jackson, who previously represented high‑profile clients such as Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, said the defendant’s health will be monitored on a “day‑to‑day” basis before he stands before a judge.

Earlier reports mentioned that Nick has openly struggled with drug addiction and was placed on suicide watch while in custody.

His attorney has declined to say who will foot Nick’s legal bills, and he hasn’t confirmed whether the Reiner family is contributing.

Rob Reiner, who directed beloved classics like “The Princess Bride” and “A Few Good Men,” and his wife of 36 years, Michele, were discovered dead in their Brentwood residence on Sunday afternoon.

The couple’s 28‑year‑old daughter, Romy, was reportedly the first to stumble upon the scene. She later called the police, who found her mother deceased inside; she suggested that her older brother be treated as a suspect.

Investigators are still trying to determine the exact time of death, but prosecutors believe the murders occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning—just hours after a tense argument between Nick and his father at the Conan O’Brien Christmas party.

On Sunday night around 9:15 p.m., the LAPD’s Gang and Narcotics Unit apprehended Nick approximately 15 miles from his parents’ home. Videos of the arrest show him being cuffed on the street.

He remains in custody without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, where he is reportedly on suicide watch.
