Female swimmer missing off Lovers Point after feared shark attack

A 55‑year‑old swimmer went missing after a suspected shark incident off Lovers Point in California.

The woman was part of a weekly swim session with a local club in Pacific Grove. While the group was in the water on Sunday, they saw a large splash that some members thought could have been a shark. The other swimmers safely returned to shore, but the woman was not seen again.

Local police paused the search around 8 p.m. that night and resumed it early on Monday. “She’s a 55-year-old blonde woman with blue eyes who is currently missing and who we’re searching for,” confirmed Pacific Grove Police Commander Brian Anderson.

Authorities have shut down Lovers Point Beach, as well as McAbee and San Carlos beaches in Monterey, through Tuesday out of concern for a possible killer shark in the area. The hunt for the missing swimmer involves the Pacific Grove police, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Monterey Fire Department, and additional agencies.
