Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a warm visit to Churachandpur in Manipur on Saturday, connecting with locals in a heartfelt way. The enthusiastic crowd welcomed him with traditional gifts, including the Zomie shawl and Thadou Kuki shawl, showcasing the rich culture of the region. Adding a sweet touch, a young girl presented PM Modi with a beautiful portrait of him, which clearly touched his heart.
During his trip, PM Modi kicked off several big development projects worth over Rs 7,300 crore, focusing on Manipur’s growth. True to his promise of inclusive and sustainable progress, he laid the foundation stone for the Manipur Urban Roads and Drainage Improvement Project, valued at more than Rs 3,600 crore. This initiative will transform urban infrastructure, making cities cleaner and more efficient.
He also greenlit five key National Highway projects costing over Rs 2,500 crore to boost connectivity across Manipur. Other highlights include the Manipur Infotech Development (MIND) project to drive tech innovation and Working Women’s Hostels in nine locations to support women’s empowerment.
Later, PM Modi headed to Imphal, the capital of Manipur, where he inaugurated projects worth over Rs 1,200 crore. These include the new Civil Secretariat at Mantripukhri, the IT SEZ Building and New Police Headquarters in the same area, Manipur Bhawans in Delhi and Kolkata for better state representation, and upgrades to the iconic Ima Markets—an all-women market—in four districts. These steps aim to empower local women entrepreneurs and strengthen Manipur’s administrative backbone.
Before arriving in Manipur, PM Modi dedicated Mizoram’s first railway line, the Bairabi-Sairang express, to the nation. Speaking from Lengpui airport in Aizawl due to bad weather, he called it a “lifeline of transformation” for the state. “This isn’t just a railway—it’s a game-changer for Mizoram’s people,” PM Modi said. He explained how it will connect farmers and businesses to bigger markets nationwide, revolutionizing lives and livelihoods in the region.
PM Modi’s visits underline his focus on Northeast India’s development, bringing jobs, better infrastructure, and opportunities to remote areas.
