Elite forces dismantle Maoists’ key network in Jharkhand operations

In Jharkhand’s ongoing battle against Maoist insurgents, the elite 209 Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) has made waves this year with bold operations. These counter-insurgency efforts have turned 2025 into a game-changer for curbing left-wing extremism in the region.
CoBRA commandos showed real precision and bravery, taking down key parts of the Maoist network. They neutralized 20 hardcore Maoists, hitting the leadership hard. This included two top Central Committee members—the highest level in Naxal command—plus two from the Bihar-Jharkhand Special Area Committee (BJSAC), four Zonal Committee Members (ZCMs), two Sub-Zonal Committee Members (SZCMs), and three Area Committee Members (ACMs).
These weren’t just low-level fighters; they were the brains behind planning, recruiting, and enforcing. Their elimination has created big gaps in the Maoist hierarchy, making it tough for the group to bounce back.
CoBRA didn’t stop there. They arrested three Maoists, including one SZCM, one ACM, and a regular cadre. These captures gave security forces valuable intel, which has further crippled the insurgents’ plans and spread fear in their ranks.
The operations also led to massive seizures that highlight how serious the fight has been. Troops grabbed 32 automatic weapons, 345 kilograms of explosives, 88 detonators, and more than 2,500 rounds of ammo. They even recovered piles of war supplies, showing just how armed the Naxal setup was.
On top of that, CoBRA destroyed 18 Naxal hideouts and 39 bunkers. These moves cut off the insurgents’ spots for regrouping, setting traps, and hiding weapons, basically breaking their supply lines.
Experts say these wins go beyond quick battles—they’re big steps in the strategy against Maoists in Jharkhand. By going after leaders, messing up their logistics, and taking back areas, CoBRA has dealt a heavy blow to the movement.
Security teams are buzzing with high spirits, while the Maoists struggle without their top bosses and gear. As 2025 wraps up, CoBRA’s success proves what smart intel, tough fieldwork, and dedication can do to bring peace back to the area.
