New Delhi, Oct 10 – India has officially named three of its largest ports—Deendayal Port Authority in Gujarat, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority in Tamil Nadu, and Paradip Port Authority in Odisha—as Green Hydrogen Hubs. The move comes under the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM), aiming to turn the country into a global clean‑energy leader.
“We’re stepping into a new era of maritime innovation,” said Ports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, highlighting the ports’ role as launchpads for green technology. “Prime Minister Modi’s vision of net‑zero emissions by 2070 will be powered by a sustainable hydrogen economy.”
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) says these hubs will boost production, use, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. By clustering projects in key locations, the mission can support early‑stage plants, cut costs, and create a robust hydrogen supply chain.
“Designating these ports as hubs will spark industrial interest, draw green investment, and drive clean‑fuel tech innovation,” the ministry added. The updated guidelines issued June 27, 2025 now outline how regions can qualify as Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters (HVIC) or Green Hydrogen Hubs.
With New Delhi’s green‑hydrogen push, India is positioning itself to meet ambitious energy goals while strengthening its maritime trade routes. The announcement underscores the country’s commitment to clean energy and a net‑zero future by 2070.
