Andhra Pradesh is stepping up its game to become a top spot for Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in India. On Tuesday, the state government launched a new GCC Advisory Council that’s set to bring together big players from around the world. This move aims to boost investments and turn the state into a leader in the digital economy.
GCCs are like the powerhouse units of multinational companies. They handle everything from research and development (R&D) to IT services, finance, procurement, and customer support. Unlike old-school outsourcing, these centres are fully owned by their parent companies, which means more innovation and smooth ties to global operations. India already has over 1,600 such GCCs, employing 1.6 million people, and Andhra Pradesh wants a big slice of the next wave of growth.
The council packs a punch with experts from all sides. It includes top executives (CXOs) from global giants like AXA XL, Mastercard, Warner Bros. Discovery, Novartis, Syngenta, and BT Group. You’ll also find reps from industry groups like NASSCOM, business councils such as USIBC and EBTC, consulting firms including EY, KPMG, Deloitte, and ANSR, plus real estate leaders like Knight Frank India, Prestige Group, Sattva, and Sobha. Even top schools like IIT Tirupati and IIM Visakhapatnam are in the mix.
This group has a clear mission. They’re crafting a five-year roadmap for Andhra Pradesh’s GCC sector. Key focuses include building a strong talent pool through skill programs and university tie-ups, sparking innovation with global R&D partnerships, and creating top-notch infrastructure like IT parks and ready-to-use commercial spaces. They’ll also keep an eye on the state’s IT & GCC Policy 4.0 and push branding efforts with roadshows in the US, Europe, and Asia.
To kick things off, the government has approved a three-month blitz of national and international events. These roadshows will pitch Andhra Pradesh as the go-to destination for GCC investments, drawing in more global corporations.
With this council up and running, experts say Andhra Pradesh could spark a boom in GCC-driven growth. Expect thousands of high-paying jobs and a stronger foothold in the global tech world. It’s an exciting time for the state’s economy!
