Cupertino (California), Dec 2 (LatestNewsX) – Apple announced that Amar Subramanya, a well‑known AI researcher, will become the company’s new Vice President of AI, reporting directly to Craig Federighi.
John Giannandrea, who has led Apple’s Machine Learning and AI Strategy as senior VP, will step down and stay on as an advisor before retiring in spring 2026.
Apple said Subramanya will steer key initiatives such as Apple Foundation Models, ML research, and AI Safety & Evaluation. The remainder of Giannandrea’s team will transition to Sabih Khan and Eddy Cue to align better with similar committees.
Subramanya arrives with a strong background: he most recently served as Corporate VP of AI at Microsoft, and earlier spent 16 years at Google, heading engineering for the Gemini Assistant before leaving.
Apple highlighted that his deep knowledge of AI and ML, plus his track record of turning research into real products, will drive the company’s future innovations and upcoming Apple Intelligence features.
Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, said, “We’re grateful for John’s pivotal role in advancing our AI work and for helping Apple continue to innovate and enrich our users’ lives.”
Cook added, “It’s a pleasure to welcome Amar to Craig’s leadership team and to benefit from his extraordinary AI expertise.”
He also noted that Craig has been crucial in broadening Apple’s AI agenda, including plans to deliver a more personalized Siri next year.
The iPhone maker recalled that since Giannandrea joined Apple in 2018, he has been central to shaping the company’s AI and ML strategy, building a world‑class team, and delivering essential AI technologies.
Today that team leads areas such as Apple Foundation Models, Search & Knowledge, ML Research, and AI Infrastructure.
With Giannandrea’s groundwork, Federighi’s wider oversight, and Subramanya’s deep expertise, Apple is set to accelerate its pursuit of intelligent, trustworthy, and distinctly personal experiences.
