Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw launched seven new train services in Bihar on Monday, bringing more affordable travel options to the state. Three of these are Amrit Bharat Express trains, designed to make long-distance journeys easier and cheaper for lower- and middle-income families.
Vaishnaw kicked off the services virtually from New Delhi, while Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary joined the celebration in person at Patna Junction to flag them off symbolically.
The new Amrit Bharat Express routes connect key spots: one from Darbhanga to Madar in Ajmer, another from Muzaffarpur to Charlapalli in Hyderabad, and a third from Chhapra to Anand Vihar in Delhi. These trains offer a budget-friendly alternative to the high-speed Vande Bharat services, helping the Indian Railways modernize while keeping fares low for everyday travelers.
Vaishnaw also introduced four shorter passenger trains within Bihar to boost local connectivity. They run between Jhajha and Danapur, Patna and Buxar, Nawada and Patna, and Patna and Islampur.
Speaking about the launch, Vaishnaw emphasized how these trains will ease travel for Bihari migrants and daily commuters. “Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance and in partnership with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, we’re rolling out these seven new trains to link cities and provide lower fares for middle- and low-income groups,” he said.
The minister praised Nitish Kumar’s earlier role as railway minister, noting how he elevated the department. Vaishnaw pointed out a tough period from 2004 to 2014 but highlighted the revival and new milestones under Modi’s leadership, accelerating railway development in Bihar.
At the Patna event, Choudhary thanked Modi, Kumar, and Vaishnaw for prioritizing Bihar’s growth in rail and road infrastructure. He shared exciting upcoming projects, including a ring road in Bhagalpur, a four-lane highway from Sultanganj in Bhagalpur to Deoghar in Jharkhand, and a new railway line to connect these major pilgrimage sites.
Choudhary also spotlighted the massive boost in funding: Bihar received just around Rs 1,000 crore a year for railways under the previous UPA government. But in the last 11 years of Modi’s administration, the Centre has poured over Rs 1 lakh crore into the state’s railway projects, transforming connectivity for millions.
