Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurates NIELIT Digital University

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw kicked off the NIELIT Digital University (NDU) platform in New Delhi on Thursday, October 2. This new online hub aims to make top-notch digital education available to everyone, no matter where they live. He also unveiled five fresh NIELIT centers virtually, boosting access to tech training across India.

The NDU platform focuses on hot skills like artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, data science, semiconductors, and related tech fields. It offers flexible online courses and virtual labs to help young people build job-ready abilities for tomorrow’s workforce. Government officials say this setup will empower India’s youth with practical, industry-driven knowledge.

The new centers opened in Muzaffarpur, Bihar; Balasore, Odisha; Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh; Daman in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu; and Lunglei, Mizoram. These additions strengthen NIELIT’s network, which already plays a key role in shaping India’s tech landscape.

During the event, NIELIT signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with big names like Microsoft, Zscaler, CCRYN, Dixon Tech, and Future Crime. These partnerships promise to tighten links between educators and businesses.

Vaishnaw shared his vision, noting that three years back, leaders chose NIELIT to build this Digital University. “We need to line up 500 industry partners—not just from electronics or IT, but every sector where these technologies matter,” he said. He pointed out how electronics manufacturing has ballooned to a whopping Rs 13 lakh crore industry. “NIELIT will hit even bigger goals soon,” he added confidently.

The minister highlighted how these MoUs will spark stronger teamwork between schools and companies. He urged NIELIT to chat with the top 500 firms and ink more deals, following the idea of “YOU DECIDE WHAT TO TEACH.” That way, courses match real-world needs head-on.

S. Krishnan, Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), called the launch a game-changer. “It brings a wider array of courses to more people,” he said. Krishnan praised NIELIT for setting up centers in tough, remote spots where quality training is hard to find. With state-of-the-art setups, these hubs deliver tech education to far-flung areas. Overall, the NDU platform will help close the gap between skills and jobs, making India more competitive in digital education and tech innovation.
