Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw rolled up his seat in an Indian car and tried the country‑made navigation app Mappls by MapmyIndia. He called the experience a “win” for India’s tech scene and encouraged everyone to download the app.
In a short social‑media post, Vaishnaw shared what impressed him. “I met the MAPLS team today,” he wrote. “All Indian OEMs already ship this app, so let’s see how good it is.”
The biggest highlight was the app’s three‑dimensional view of overbridges, underpasses and roundabouts. “I saw a 3D junction view for every overbridge and underpass,” Vaishnaw added. The feature helps drivers spot complex intersections and steer safely.
Another useful trick he discovered is the doorstep navigation. When you reach a building with many floors, Mappls pinpoints the exact shop or stall you need. “If there are multiple floors, the app tells you which shop to go to,” he said.
Vaishnaw praised how the Swadeshi app shows India’s growing ability to produce top‑class digital and navigation solutions that work best in Indian conditions.
Mappls offers a handful of other handy tools that make driving smoother and smarter:
- Real‑time driving alerts – the app flashes warnings for speed limits, accident blackspots, sharp curves, speed breakers, traffic signals, and CCTV cameras.
- Trip cost calculator – users can estimate fuel and toll expenses ahead, and the app suggests savings via the NHAI Fastag annual pass or by choosing a more economical vehicle or fuel type.
- Safety notifications – alerts keep drivers within speed limits and guide them away from risky road patches.
Designed from scratch in India, Mappls is built for Indian roads and drivers. It’s an example of a truly indigenous navigation app that can stand toe‑to‑toe with global rivals.
