BJP Urges Traders to Pass GST Cuts Directly to Consumers for a Stronger Economy
New Delhi, Sep 7: In a big move, the BJP Parliamentary Party has unanimously passed a resolution asking manufacturers and traders of all sizes to make sure the recent GST reductions by the Narendra Modi government reach everyday consumers straight away. This step aims to boost trust between shopkeepers and customers while driving India’s economic growth.
The resolution, presented by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal during the meeting, emphasizes how passing on these savings honors Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. "By sharing every rupee of relief, we build stronger bonds between traders and citizens. Lower prices mean more demand, which sparks business prosperity and strengthens our nation," it states. It calls on everyone to turn GST reforms into real ease of living, higher consumption, and a booming economy— all part of the push for an Aatmanirbhar Bharat or self-reliant India.
These GST changes promote production, encourage people to spend more, and fill the government’s coffers too. They simplify the system and put citizens first. For instance, rates on essentials like food and medicines have dropped sharply, electronic goods prices are lower, and issues like inverted duties are getting fixed. Small businesses, exporters, and startups now face easier procedures. All this aligns with the Modi government’s goal to ease lives, empower traders, and boost India’s self-reliance.
The resolution highlights impressive growth in GST collections, now hitting around Rs 2 lakh crore every month—a clear sign of better compliance and a vibrant economy. Eight years ago, under PM Modi’s leadership, India rolled out the Goods and Services Tax (GST), achieving the dream of "One Nation, One Tax." Back then, the old system with VAT and multiple taxes created a slow, fragmented economy full of hassles like long queues at interstate toll booths. Now, we’ve got a unified market that’s fair, simple, and powerful.
Before 2014, previous governments couldn’t implement GST, but PM Modi not only brought it in but did so with nationwide consensus. The results are stunning: The GST taxpayer base has more than doubled from 66 lakh in 2017 to over 1.5 crore today. Annual collections have jumped to more than Rs 22 lakh crore in FY 2024–25, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 18 percent. Monthly GST collections are now close to Rs 2 lakh crore, way higher than when this landmark reform started.
This resolution isn’t just words—it’s a call to action for fairness, growth, and benefits for every Indian family. By ensuring GST reductions flow to consumers, traders can help make Modi’s GST reforms a true success story for India’s economy.
