Imphal, Oct 9 – A joint force of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police commandos ran a sharp raid in Kakching district, recovering a trove of weapons and ammunition that could have been used by insurgents.
The team of 16 men moved into the Thambal Chingya area on the basis of concrete intelligence about a hide‑out holding war‑like stores. The operation began in the early morning and the soldiers conducted a thorough sweep of the location.
They seized a large cache that included one AK‑47 rifle, one G3 rifle, a modified single‑barrel rifle, three bolt‑action single‑barrel rifles, one hand grenade and 60 rounds of live ammunition in different calibres. More “war‑like stores” were also found.
All seized items were handed over to the Kakching Police Station for investigation and legal processing. Spokesmen said the raid shows how effective coordinated action between the Assam Rifles and local police can be against insurgent groups in the Northeast.
“This operation disrupts potential threats and strengthens peace in Manipur,” a defence spokesman said. “The partnership between the armed forces and civil authorities remains a key tool for securing our border districts.”
The success of the raid underscores Assam Rifles’ continued role as a reliable partner for law and order agencies in the region, and it sends a clear message that the government will keep working to protect local communities from insurgent activity.
