New Delhi, Oct. 14 – Indian officials celebrated Google’s big move to set up an artificial‑intelligence (AI) hub in Visakhapatnam. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw praised the plan, saying it fits perfectly with the government’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision and promises strong economic and societal gains for India and the United States.

The announcement came during the Bharat AI Shakti event in New Delhi, a pre‑summit for the India‑AI Impact Summit 2026. Vaishnaw told reporters that the new digital infrastructure will drive the India AI mission forward. “AI services are a fast‑growing part of our digital economy,” he said. “This hub will train young people and help our IT workforce develop the skills they need for the AI era.”

He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for championing technology in every aspect of life and urged the private sector to lead in reskilling and upskilling IT talent.

Google’s Visakhapatnam AI hub will combine the company’s full AI stack—including state‑of‑the‑art AI infrastructure, large‑scale data centres, sustainable energy sources, and an expanded fiber‑optic network. The investment, roughly $15 billion spread over five years (2026‑2030), is Google’s biggest spend yet in India.

A study commissioned by Google and carried out by Access Partnership predicts the hub will add at least $15 billion to U.S. GDP in the next five years. That boost will come from increased cloud and AI adoption, as well as the involvement of U.S. talent and resources in building and operating the facility.

N. Chandrababu Naidu, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, said the project marks a “new chapter in India’s digital transformation journey.” He highlighted the state’s role in hosting India’s first gigawatt‑scale data centre and Google’s first AI hub nationwide.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, described the investment as a “landmark” for India’s digital future. He added that the hub will help businesses innovate faster and create opportunities for inclusive growth.
