Bhubaneswar, Dec 12 (LatestNewsX) – East Coast Railway (ECoR) has expanded its security network by installing solar‑powered CCTV cameras and modern surveillance drones throughout its territory. The aim is to bolster passenger safety, deter unauthorized entries, improve monitoring of hard‑to‑reach stretches, and better safeguard railway assets and personnel.
According to an official statement, the railway has set up solar‑powered CCTV systems at critical, power‑constrained sites across all three divisions to provide continuous surveillance. In the Waltair Division, 113 cameras have already been deployed in yards and locations at high risk of trespassing, and 115 additional units are in the procurement phase.
The Khurda Division has commissioned six cameras at key points, with a further 1,027 units to be acquired later. In the Sambalpur Division, 46 cameras have been installed at strategic sites.
“The deployment of these solar‑powered CCTV systems is expected to greatly benefit passengers and the public by ensuring enhanced safety in vulnerable areas, preventing crimes, reducing trespassing incidents, and enabling more effective monitoring in remote locations,” ECoR said. The railway added that the cameras also aid crowd management during peak periods, enable swift emergency responses, improve post‑incident investigations, and bolster the security of staff.
“This initiative reinforces ECoR’s commitment to providing a safer, more secure, and people‑friendly railway environment,” the operator noted.
Beyond ground surveillance, ECoR has introduced advanced drones for aerial coverage. “Complementing the ground surveillance network, East Coast Railway has further strengthened monitoring capabilities using drones,” a spokesperson explained. Currently, five drones are operational: two in the Khurda Road and Waltair Divisions, and one in Sambalpur. “These drones are used for real‑time monitoring of long track stretches, inspections in remote areas, oversight of railway yards, crowd management during special events, and various security operations,” informed ECoR.
