Mexican woman gets 20 years for role in killings of US, Australian surfers

A Mexican woman has been handed a 20‑year prison sentence after pleading guilty to robbery with violence connected to the 2024 murders of three surfers in Baja California.

The judge in Ensenada sentenced Ary Gisell Silva Raya, who was the partner of one of the men already jailed for the killings. Silva Raya admitted she helped plan the robbery and convinced her accomplices to target an American male and two Australian brothers—Callum Ryan Robinson and Jake Martin Robinson—along with their friend Jack Carter Rhoad.

The surfers were lured to a remote spot near Punta San Jose, about 50 miles south of Ensenada. They were robbed of their gear, shot, and their bodies were later found dumped in a shallow well by investigators.

All three men charged with the murders remain in custody, awaiting trial. The case has drawn international attention and highlighted the risks travelers face in seemingly safe coastal areas.
