New Delhi, Oct. 17 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the NDTV World Summit that India’s economy has leapt from “fragile” to one of the top five in the world thanks to reforms launched over the last decade.
He praised the banking overhaul that opened more than 5 billion Jan Dhan accounts in 2014, when half of the population had no bank account. “We democratized banking and now digital payments are the norm,” Modi said. The push for mobile money has made India one of the most inclusive financial nations.
Modi also highlighted tax reforms. The income‑tax overhaul and the GST system should save businesses Rs 2.5 lakh crore. He noted record sales during the festive season, a result of lower prices, smoother credit flow and fewer tax disputes.
The chatty leader celebrated the transformation of BSNL into a 4G powerhouse. India’s fully indigenous “Bharat Telecom Stack” powers over 100,000 BSNL towers and is ready for export. The rollout has boosted broadband reach in rural and remote areas.
“India proves the world wrong,” Modi added, pointing to UPI. The UPi platform now processes 50 percent of all digital transactions globally. It dominates the global digital‑payment market and drives financial inclusion at scale.
