Gameskraft Lays Off 120 Employees Amid India’s New Online Gaming Ban

In a tough move for the online gaming world, Bengaluru-based Gameskraft announced on Thursday that it’s letting go of around 120 employees. This comes right after India’s new Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, shook up the real-money gaming industry, pushing companies into "uncharted territory."

The company shared in a statement that, like many others, it’s struggling to adapt to this fresh regulatory landscape and the fast-changing business scene. "The new law brings complex and wide-reaching changes that have hit the sector hard, including Gameskraft," they said. "We’ve tried our best, but the rules have forced us to halt our operations completely. This leaves us no option but to restructure the entire company."

As part of this overhaul, Gameskraft is parting ways with 120 team members from various departments. "This decision weighs heavy on our hearts," the company added. "As the industry keeps evolving with these external pressures, we might need more changes down the line."

To support those affected, Gameskraft is keeping group health insurance active until March 2026 or until employees find new jobs—whichever comes first.

Prithvi Singh, Founder and CEO of Gameskraft, called this one of the hardest calls in the company’s history. "Every Krafter—our nickname for employees—has shaped our journey with their passion and dedication. We’re truly grateful for their contributions," he said. Moving forward, the company plans to keep monitoring the situation and adjusting as needed.

This isn’t an isolated case in the real-money gaming sector. Last week, rival Zupee laid off 170 staff—about 30% of its workforce—following the government’s August bill that banned online games involving real money deposits and winnings. Other big players like Games24x7, Baazi Games, and Mobile Premier League have also cut jobs in response to the online gaming ban.

The law targets games where players deposit money hoping to win cash prizes, aiming to curb risks in the booming Indian online gaming market. As the industry navigates these rules, more shifts could be on the horizon for real-money gaming companies.
