New Delhi, Oct. 10 – The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) kicked off a fresh training push called IGNiTE 4.0 that will train 1,000 young people from low‑income families in cutting‑edge automotive skills.
IGNiTE 4.0 is a joint effort between NSDC and Mercedes‑Benz India. At the launch, State Minister Jayant Chaudhary said the government plans to hire 45 million people in the mobility sector, including 9 million in the electric‑vehicle (EV) market. The training will help fill those jobs.
The program focuses on electric‑vehicle technology and Industry 4.0—smart manufacturing and connected systems. It also aims for at least 30 % of learners to be women, meeting a key diversity goal.
Over 12 months, the plan will be run by Kedman Skilling Private Ltd under India’s National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF). Skills audits and exams will be set by relevant sector councils to keep the training on global standards.
Training will take place at two new Skill Development Centres, one in Delhi‑NCR at Manav Rachna University and another in Pune at MIT ADT University. Learners will qualify for jobs such as:
- Electric Vehicle Service Assistant
- Automotive Quality Control Assistant
- Automotive Product Testing Technician
- Industry 4.0 Technician
All roles require a minimum of 30 % female participation.
Chaudhary stressed India’s “demographic dividend.” He urged institutions to focus on innovation, patent creation, and product development, not just low costs. He also highlighted a ₹60,000 crore fund under PM‑SETU that will give thousands of youths national certifications, ITI courses, and the chance to build careers.
“This is how we make skilling aspirational,” Chaudhary said. “By encouraging lifelong learning, breaking silos, and building a future‑ready India, we turn youth into job creators.”
