In New Delhi on November 9, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) announced agreements with more than 50 companies to boost India’s manufacturing startup scene. The move is part of a broader push to pair large corporations with emerging makers, sparking new products, fresh ideas and sustainable growth.
Officials say DPIIT has reached out to corporates, industry groups, unicorn firms and veteran players to show how manufacturing‑focused incubators can help early‑stage companies thrive. “We’re driving a larger effort to grow the startup ecosystem and get industry to back innovation in manufacturing through incubators and partnerships,” one spokesperson told reporters.
These partnerships aim to solve the biggest hurdles for manufacturing startups—limited access to factories, high capital costs and scaling challenges. Incubators equipped with pilot plants, design labs and shared production spaces lower the upfront investment that usually keeps new makers on the sidelines.
Beyond facilities, a well‑run incubator connects startups with established suppliers, opens doors to market deals, attracts risk capital and introduces advanced technologies. Corporations, universities and research organisations can set up these hubs, creating a bridge between the new and the old.
The DPIIT initiative marks a significant step toward a collaborative manufacturing ecosystem that supports India’s goal of becoming a global innovation hub. Shortly before, DPIIT signed an MoU with Thermo Fisher Scientific (TFS) to speed up biotechnology innovation in India. The partnership will help more than 500 biotech startups over the next three years by offering strategic advice, technology access, mentorship and investor networking.
Under the same MoU, TFS will launch the BioVerse Challenge—part of the National Startup Grand Challenge—under a nationwide platform to spot and nurture India’s brightest biotech talents. The BioVerse Mentors Circle will provide skill development and technical training across top bio‑incubators, further strengthening the country’s biotech pipeline.
