Greece, Ukraine ink agreement on LNG supply

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Athens on November 17 to meet Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and sign a key natural‑gas deal. The agreement, a letter of intent between Greece’s DEPA Commercial and Ukraine’s Naftogaz, will allow U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) to flow into Ukraine via the “Vertical Corridor” from December 2025 to March 2026.

Mitsotakis said the pact will give Ukraine a reliable, diversified energy source. He added that Greece has become a major hub for gas flows to Central and Eastern Europe, strengthening the region’s energy security.

After the signing, Zelensky posted a tweet thanking Prime Minister Mitsotakis and all those who made the agreement possible. He praised Greece for its “continuous, substantive and multifaceted support” amid daily attacks on Ukrainian critical infrastructure. Zelensky also thanked the United States and urged ongoing pressure on Russia, calling for further sanctions and highlighting Greece’s assistance with returning abducted children and prisoners of war.

The delegation also discussed rebuilding Ukraine, deepening defence cooperation, and progressing toward Euro‑Atlantic integration. The deal is a sign of growing Western‑Eastern ties and a boost for Ukraine’s efforts to secure its energy supply during the ongoing conflict with Russia.
