Small business owners in New Delhi are cheering Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s latest GST changes, which kick in on the first day of Navratri. They see these tax reforms as a big win for India, especially for middle-class families looking to stretch their budgets during the festive season.
The tweaks include slashing GST rates on key items, dropping costs for everyday essentials and real estate. This means more savings, higher purchasing power, and easier access to affordable homes and goods. Traders and workers alike are calling it the start of a nationwide “savings celebration” just in time for festivals like Navratri and Diwali.
Ram Gopal Singh, a real estate trader, shared his excitement with after Modi’s address to the nation. “These GST changes from the first day of Navratri fill us with pride for our country,” he said. “They boost businesses and empower the middle class, turning the festive season into something more prosperous and fun.”
Fellow trader Amit Singh agrees. “Families will cut costs on daily essentials, boost their buying power, and enjoy some real financial relief during celebrations,” he noted.
The reforms hit construction materials hard in a good way. GST on cement, wood, stone, and AC blocks now falls to as low as 5% from the previous 12-28%. Dinesh Singh, another trader, explained how this helps everyday folks. “Housing projects become more affordable for families like mine, and those savings free up money for daily expenses.”
Even office workers are on board. Sony Gupta, an employee, pointed out the ripple effects. “Lower GST rates mean bigger household savings and more spending room during the holidays. People who once overspent on basics can now make Navratri and Diwali even more special.”
Sharad Singh, another office goer, dubbed it a “savings festival” for everyone. “This feels like a thoughtful gift to households across India, delivering financial ease and extra joy right when we need it most for the festival season.”
