GST rate cut: After Mother Dairy, Amul lowers rates on over 700 products

Amul is passing on savings to shoppers by slashing prices on more than 700 dairy products, just days after a similar move by Mother Dairy. The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which runs the popular Amul brand, made the announcement on Saturday. These cuts stem from recent GST rate rationalization, putting most items in the 0% or 5% tax slab.
Starting September 22, you’ll see lower tags on a wide lineup, including UHT milk, ghee, butter, ice cream, cheese, paneer, chocolates, bakery items, frozen snacks, condensed milk, and even peanut spreads and malt drinks. For instance, a one-liter pack of Amul Taaza Toned UHT Milk drops by 2.6%, while Amul Gold Standardised UHT Milk sees a 3.6% reduction.
Other favorites get a boost too: 100-gram Amul butter now costs Rs 58, down from Rs 62. Ghee falls by Rs 40 to Rs 610 per liter. The MRP for a one-kg block of Amul processed cheese dips Rs 30 to Rs 545, and 200-gram frozen paneer goes for Rs 95 instead of Rs 99.
GCMMF says these price reductions aim to ramp up dairy consumption in India, where per-person intake of treats like ice cream, cheese, and butter stays low. That opens big doors for growth. Owned by 3.6 million farmers, the cooperative expects higher demand to lift its overall turnover.
Mother Dairy kicked things off earlier this week with its own price cuts from September 22, covering its full range. Heritage Foods jumped in too, trimming Rs 3 off the MRP for its long-shelf-life UHT milk per liter, all thanks to the GST tweaks.
