Gandhinagar – The chief minister of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, headed a scholarship‑distribution ceremony on Friday that celebrated the state’s flagship education programmes: Namo Lakshmi, Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana, and the two Merit Scholarships, Mukhyamantri Gyan Sadhana and Mukhyamantri Gyan Setu.
Over a million students across Gujarat received awards worth more than 370 crore rupees, which were sent straight into their bank accounts via the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. The event drew a host of officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, Education Minister Dr Pradyumansinh Vaja, Minister of State for Education Rivaba Jadeja, and other dignitaries.
Speaking to the gathered crowd, Patel hailed the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign, noting that it has spurred a surge in girls’ education nationwide. He recalled how Gujarat’s own School Enrollment Drives (Praveshotsav) and Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav, launched while Modi was governor of the state, reshaped the educational landscape and encouraged families to prioritise girls’ schooling.
Patel highlighted Gujarat’s progress toward PM Modi’s vision of seamless learning from KG to PG, and stressed that education remains the bedrock of any state’s or nation’s growth. He urged students to pursue knowledge with dedication and to take pride in India’s indigenous ethos, pointing out that young people will play a pivotal role in building a Viksit Gujarat, an Atmanirbhar Gujarat, and, in the future, a Viksit Bharat and an Atmanirbhar Bharat.
In the past twenty years, Gujarat’s education infrastructure has expanded dramatically, becoming one of India’s most robust systems. The state has fortified the entire educational pipeline, from KG to PG, by expanding school access through initiatives such as School Praveshotsav, modernising classrooms, incorporating digital tools, establishing smart schools, and enhancing teacher recruitment.
On the higher‑education front, Gujarat has constructed a strong network of universities, model colleges, skill universities, and specialised institutes in engineering, medicine, and research. The Namo Lakshmi, Namo Saraswati, and various merit scholarships have improved retention and access—particularly for girls. Investments in hostels, STEM labs, vocational training, and public‑private partnerships further connect education with employability, making Gujarat’s educational ecosystem increasingly inclusive, modern, and aligned with industry needs.
