Gujarat: Vaishnaw holds high-level meet to review progress of semiconductor projects

In a big meeting in Gandhinagar on Monday, India’s Union Minister for Information Technology and Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, said the country is putting a focused push on electronics and semiconductor manufacturing. He highlighted Dholera, a planned town on Gujarat’s coast, as the next major hub for high‑tech factories.
“We’re aiming to make Dholera a global center for electronics and chips,” Vaishnaw told reporters. “The world is watching India and Gujarat closely, and Dholera is often mentioned as a key player in the semiconductor industry.”
The ministers had just finished a high‑level review of progress on semiconductor projects in Gujarat. The meeting in the state capital, attended by state leaders Bhupendra Patel (Chief Minister), Harsh Sanghavi (Deputy CM) and Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia, also covered infrastructure plans. Key updates covered power, water, logistics, and transport – including rail, road and air links – to support fabs for companies such as Tata, Micron and CG Semicon in Dholera and nearby Sanand.
Patel said India is on track to become a top player in chip manufacturing. “Earlier steps were slow, but Prime Minister Modi’s consistent push has turned plans into real projects,” he said. “Gujarat is creating an ecosystem that will put India at the forefront of semiconductor production.”
Vaishnaw expressed confidence that Dholera would soon become a major high‑tech manufacturing center. He added that the project’s progress will be closely monitored, with follow‑up meetings scheduled to keep momentum high.
With dozens of global investors eyeing India’s fast‑growing semiconductor sector, the government’s push in Dholera and Sanand looks poised to boost electronics manufacturing and establish Gujarat as a leader in high‑tech production.
