Gurdip Bath Congratulates St. Kitts and Nevis PM Terrance Drew on MIPAD Lifetime Achievement Award

New Delhi, Oct 4 – The High Commissioner of St. Kitts and Nevis to India, Gurdip Dev Bath, sent a warm congratulations to his country’s leader, Prime Minister Terrance Drew, after the Caribbean nation’s chief received the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD).

Bath praised Drew as a visionary leader who has raised St. Kitts and Nevis onto the world stage. He highlighted the prime minister’s work in improving healthcare, boosting renewable‑energy projects, and deepening ties with Africa.

“We celebrate a statesman whose humility and compassion have driven real change,” Bath said. “Your example inspires confidence for our future.”

The award ceremony took place at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York. Drew, with his wife and first lady Diani Jimesha‑Prince Drew, thanked everyone and said the prize belongs to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis. He noted the country’s growing visibility on the global stage and pledged to keep building bridges between the Caribbean and Africa.

Drew joined celebrity recipients such as Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, and Aaron Pierre. The MIPAD Lifetime Achievement Award honors leaders whose work shapes generations and borders.

The announcement sparked pride among citizens at home and abroad, marking a historic moment for the small island state.

Strengthening Africa‑Caribbean Ties

Since taking office, Drew has pushed for stronger cultural, diplomatic, and economic links between Africa and the Caribbean. In 2025, he announced upcoming missions to Algeria and Ethiopia, including the 4th Intra‑Africa Trade Fair and the CARICOM‑African Union Summit in Addis Ababa. Earlier this year, at the AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum in Grenada, he reaffirmed a commitment to cultural exchanges, sports partnerships, and trade cooperation.

Landmark Deals with Africa

A key development this year was the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Nigeria. The agreement will create an Agro‑Hub Warehouse and Logistics Centre in St. Kitts, aimed at boosting Caribbean agricultural exports to Africa.

During a visit to Nigeria, Drew also met President Bola Tinubu. The two leaders agreed on a new reciprocal visa‑free travel arrangement for up to 90 days, effective August 4, 2025. The deal is expected to spur tourism, business, and cultural exchanges and set a standard for future Africa‑Caribbean collaboration.

Why It Matters

MIPAD’s recognition underscores Drew’s leadership style and the nation’s growing role in global diplomacy. It highlights St. Kitts and Nevis as a leader among small island states, a bridge between Africa and the Caribbean, and a source of resilience, innovation, and service that inspires worldwide.
