India added more than 1 billionaire every week in 2025: Hurun Report

India’s billionaire scene is booming like never before, with the country welcoming a new billionaire every week this year. That’s according to the latest M3M Hurun India Rich List 2025, released on Wednesday, which highlights how fast wealth is piling up in the world’s most populous nation.

This year’s list counts 350 billionaires in India—six times more than when it started 13 years ago. Overall, it spotlights 1,687 people whose fortunes top Rs 1,000 crore each. That’s a jump of 148 from last year, and a whopping 859 over the past five years. Among them, 284 are fresh faces making their debut on the Hurun India Rich List.

These ultra-rich folks are building wealth at an incredible clip: Rs 1,991 crore added every single day. Their combined net worth now hits Rs 167 lakh crore, a 5% increase from 2023. To give you a sense of scale, that’s more than Spain’s entire GDP and about half of India’s own economic output.

Not everything’s rosy, though. The average wealth per person dipped a bit to Rs 9,850 crore from Rs 10,320 crore last year, thanks to global trade tariffs and ongoing geopolitical headaches.

At the top, India’s 10 richest are pulling even further ahead—and getting younger. The minimum net worth to crack that elite group climbed to Rs 1.83 lakh crore, up from Rs 1.63 lakh crore. Their average age? Now 69, three years younger than before. Strikingly, these top 10 control 28% of the total wealth on the list.

Startups are fueling a big chunk of this India wealth creation boom. A total of 97 startup founders landed spots this year, including 46 newcomers. Twelve of those hail from companies that have gone public. What’s more, 74% of all new entrants are self-made entrepreneurs, proving India’s shift toward innovation over old-school businesses.

When it comes to industries, pharmaceuticals leads with 137 billionaires and high-net-worth individuals, followed closely by industrial products (132) and chemicals & petrochemicals (125).

Geographically, Mumbai remains the kingpin with 451 listers, trailed by New Delhi at 223 and Bengaluru with 116. Women are shining too: 101 made the cut this year, including 26 dollar billionaires.

The average age across the list stays steady at 65 for both men and women. And get this—20 people born in the 1990s have already joined this exclusive club of Indian richest people.
