India Becomes Fastest-Growing Major Economy and a Global Climate Leader

India is making waves on the world stage! On September 2, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav announced that India has become the fastest-growing major economy and is also taking a lead in global climate action efforts. This positive news was shared during the 20th Global Sustainability Summit in New Delhi, organized by the CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development.

Yadav highlighted India’s impressive journey toward sustainable growth. He explained that the country is focusing on “resilient, regenerative, and responsible development,” which means balancing economic progress with protecting the environment.

“India is the only major economy that has successfully combined sustainable growth with effective policies, infrastructure investments, and local commitment,” said Yadav. He also pointed out that India’s efforts include fulfilling international climate commitments and making tangible progress on climate goals.

Addressing global delegates, Yadav emphasized that India’s development model is rooted in protecting nature while boosting the economy. “By embracing resilience, regeneration, and responsibility, we can build a more sustainable world,” he added.

He also spoke about the current challenges facing the global economy, like trade tensions, political uncertainties, conflicts, and financial barriers. Yadav encouraged countries to adopt eco-friendly solutions, such as recycling, green manufacturing, protecting nature, and promoting responsible behavior among businesses and citizens.

India’s focus on sustainable growth is gaining praise worldwide. Yadav encouraged other nations, especially those in the Global South, to learn from India’s example in achieving inclusive and green development. Even developed countries experiencing growth slowdowns are being urged to shift their focus toward sustainability, social fairness, and resilience.

Yadav called on industries and global partners to work together. “Businesses should include sustainability in their core strategies, aligning with India’s efforts for a resilient and inclusive future,” he said.

He also shared some recent steps India has taken to build a sustainable future, such as new environmental rules, innovations in green projects, and efforts to increase forest cover. India is also making progress on its commitments under the Paris Climate Agreement, including expanding forests, launching campaigns like ‘Mission LiFE’ and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’, and adopting circular economy practices that reuse resources wisely.

India’s commitment to sustainable development is clear, and the country is showing that economic growth and environmental care can go hand in hand. As nations look for ways to grow responsibly, India’s example offers valuable lessons for the world to follow.
