India’s top business group, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), cheered Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong push on Sunday to ramp up domestic manufacturing and support for homegrown products. This move breathes new life into the Swadeshi campaign, fueled by tax cuts in the upcoming GST 2.0 reforms.

In a statement, CII called the prime minister’s address a game-changer for India’s economic growth. Starting Monday, GST 2.0 will slash taxes on everyday essentials, leaving more money in people’s pockets and sparking demand for Indian-made goods. “These changes will supercharge manufacturing and the Swadeshi spirit,” the group said.

By prioritizing local production, Indian businesses can build self-reliance and compete on the world stage, speeding up the path to Aatmanirbhar Bharat—a self-reliant India—and Viksit Bharat, a developed nation.

CII President Rajiv Memani praised the effort: “We congratulate Prime Minister Modi and the government for rolling out GST 2.0 as part of the GST Bachat Utsav.”

During his nationwide speech, Modi urged industries and everyday consumers to build a Swadeshi economy. He drew parallels to India’s freedom struggle, where the Swadeshi mantra rallied the nation. Today, he said, many foreign products sneak into our daily routines—like the comb in your pocket—without us even noticing.

Modi called for breaking free from this reliance. “Buy Made in India items, crafted with the hard work of our youth,” he urged. He envisioned every home as a Swadeshi showcase and every store stocked with local treasures. Citizens should proudly say, “I buy Swadeshi” or “I sell Swadeshi,” making it a core part of Indian life.

This shift, Modi stressed, will turbocharge India’s progress. He also asked state governments to join the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Swadeshi drives by boosting manufacturing in their areas, welcoming investments, and creating the right conditions for growth. “When the central government and states team up, we’ll achieve a self-reliant India, every state will thrive, and our nation will rise as a global powerhouse,” he added.
