No paddy stubble burning in Delhi due to govt policy, monitoring: CM Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, Dec 13 — Delhi’s Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, announced Saturday that the city managed a clean winter without a single instance of stubble‑burning – a clear sign that the government’s air‑quality measures are working.

She highlighted that in 2025, about 7,000 acres of paddy were harvested, yet because the relevant divisions worked consistently and in a coordinated way, no crop residue was set ablaze. According to Gupta, the success stems from teamwork between the Development Department’s Agriculture Unit and the Environment Department, continuous surveillance, and the active willingness of farmers.

“Delhi’s winter air‑quality decline is a serious problem, and stubble burning is one of its biggest culprits,” she said. “In response, we rigorously enforced the ‘Winter Action Plan’ as outlined by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM).”

The Development Department’s Agriculture Unit, linked with the Environment Department, adopted a zero‑tolerance stance on burning residue. Gupta added that strong policies, efficient execution, and farmer participation can tackle even severe pollution issues.

She explained that operations ran 24/7, with Development Commissioner Shurbir Singh reviewing daily reports to maintain tight control over any stubble‑burning activity and intervene instantly if necessary. Moreover, the Development Department carried out extensive field inspections and awareness drives to stop residue burning. A total of 11 teams—comprising Agriculture Extension Officers and Assistants—patrolled the five paddy‑producing districts (North, North‑West, South, South‑West, and West) around the clock, checking fields and educating farmers on the dangers of stubble combustion.
