New Delhi, Nov. 30 (LatestNewsX) – An Indian government official highlighted the growing significance of electronic toys in the country and emphasized that electronics and IT can be pivotal in shaping a local toy‑making ecosystem. Amitesh Kumar Sinha, the Additional Secretary at MeitY, expressed his satisfaction with how foundational elements are emerging and with the enthusiasm of the next wave of engineers working on the topic.
Where Indian toy manufacturing once relied heavily on imports, it now produces its own products and ships them to 153 nations. To accelerate this trend, MeitY, C‑DAC, the Indian Toy Industries, and LEGO Group came together for the graduation ceremony of the second cohort of engineering students who spent a year under the project titled “Development of Electronics and IT‑Based Control and Automation Solutions for Consumer Electronic Goods (Toy Industry).”
The initiative, created by the Ministry’s R&D division, aims to nurture India’s electronic toy sector by building prototypes and equipping young engineers—including those from under‑represented groups—with the expertise needed to design such products. Sinha, who opened the new “Electronic Toys Lab” at C‑DAC in Noida, noted that this programme could be expanded to reach more students and deliver greater impact for the toy industry as a whole.
“The CoE setup at CDAC‑Noida for e‑Toys will bring in NIELIT, MSH, and other institutes with a focus on electronic toys. It will help create entrepreneurship and startups,” Sinha added.
Under the MeitY programme, the selected engineers—drawn from SC/ST and NER backgrounds across India—spent a year in R&D. They first spent six months hands‑on in the e‑toys lab at C‑DAC‑Noida, then another six months in industry training to develop prototypes tailored to real market needs. Throughout, they received a monthly stipend of ₹25,000.
