PM Modi: Mohan Bhagwat dedicated entire life to societal transformation, strengthening spirit of harmony

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently shared warm birthday wishes for RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on his 75th birthday. In a heartfelt post on social media platform X and a detailed blog, Modi praised Bhagwat’s lifelong dedication to society, his leadership in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and his commitment to harmony and unity.

Modi kicked off by highlighting the special date, September 11. He pointed out its dual significance: the historic 1893 Chicago speech by Swami Vivekananda, which spread the idea of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family), and the tragic 2001 9/11 attacks that challenged such unity through terrorism. On this day, Modi celebrated Bhagwat as someone who lives by that principle, working tirelessly for societal change and brotherhood. For RSS members, he’s known as Param Pujya Sarsanghchalak, and this birthday aligns with the RSS’s centenary year.

Sharing a personal touch, Modi recalled his close ties with Bhagwat’s family. He spoke fondly of Bhagwat’s late father, Madhukarrao Bhagwat, a key figure in nation-building. Modi said Madhukarrao’s passion shaped young Mohan into a dedicated worker for India’s revival, calling it like passing on a precious gem from father to son.

Modi cleared up a common mix-up about the term “Pracharak” in the RSS. It’s not just about campaigning—it’s the heart of the organization’s grassroots efforts. Bhagwat started as a Pracharak during tough times, like the 1975 Emergency in India. He and other RSS volunteers focused on rural areas in Maharashtra, especially Vidarbha, helping communities despite challenges.

Over the years, Bhagwat climbed through RSS roles with skill and dedication. In the 1990s, he served as Akhil Bharatiya Sharirik Pramukh, diving deep into Bihar’s villages. By 2000, he became Sarkaryawah, and since 2009, he’s led as Sarsanghchalak. Modi described this role as more than just organization—it’s about putting the nation first, with Bhagwat’s intellectual depth and empathetic style shining through.

What stands out in Bhagwat’s leadership, according to Modi, are two key traits: sticking to traditions while adapting to new times. He connects easily with the youth, embraces change, and engages people online in today’s digital world. Modi called Bhagwat’s era the most transformative in RSS’s 100-year history, with updates like uniform changes and modern training programs.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bhagwat showed strong leadership. RSS activities faced hurdles, but he pushed for more tech use to keep things going. Even after losing dedicated volunteers, the team’s spirit stayed strong, inspired by him.

Modi drew a vivid comparison, likening the RSS to an eternal banyan tree during the launch of a Nagpur eye hospital. He praised Bhagwat’s soft-spoken nature and his gift for listening, which helps build bridges.

Bhagwat actively supports national drives like Swachh Bharat Mission and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, urging RSS members to join in. Modi highlighted Bhagwat’s “Panch Parivartan” vision for society—focusing on harmony, family values, environment care, national pride, and civic duties. He’s a big champion of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,” celebrating India’s rich diversity and cultures.

On a lighter note, Modi revealed Bhagwat’s hobbies: he’s skilled at playing Indian musical instruments and loves reading, which shows in his thoughtful speeches.

Wrapping up, Modi noted the exciting overlap this year—Vijaya Dashami, Gandhi Jayanti, Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti, and RSS centenary all on the same day. With Bhagwat at the helm, the organization is in capable hands. Modi ended by wishing him a long, healthy life in service to Mother India, calling him a true embodiment of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam that fosters trust and equality.
