Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal shared exciting updates on the India-US trade deal during a chat with reporters in Bihar on Thursday. He revealed that the first phase of this major agreement could wrap up by November 2025, boosting hopes for stronger economic ties between the two nations.
Goyal highlighted how talks between India and the US are progressing smoothly. “Both sides feel good about the momentum,” he said, adding that discussions kicked off seriously in March in a positive atmosphere.
He took everyone back to February, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then-US President Donald Trump directed their teams to hammer out the first tranche of the India-US trade deal by November 2025. “PM Modi and President Trump told us to get this done right,” Goyal recalled. Since then, negotiators have been working hard, and the progress has everyone optimistic.
These comments came right after a warm social media exchange between PM Modi and Trump. Trump posted on Truth Social, expressing his delight with the ongoing India-US trade negotiations. “India and the United States are pushing forward to tackle trade barriers between our nations,” he wrote. He also looked forward to chatting soon with his “very good friend” PM Modi.
PM Modi replied on X (formerly Twitter), calling the US a “close friend and natural partner.” He emphasized how the trade talks would unleash the “limitless potential” of the India-US partnership and promised that both teams are racing to finalize things quickly.
Trump even reshared Modi’s post, underscoring the friendly vibe between the leaders. This back-and-forth signals strong momentum for the India-US trade agreement, which could open doors for businesses, exports, and jobs in both countries. Stay tuned as these talks heat up!
