New Delhi – Employees worldwide are feeling more confident about their pay, with the share of workers who say they are under‑paid falling from 31 % last year to 27 % this year, a recent ADP report shows.

India tops the chart, the only country in the 34‑market survey where only 11 % of workers complain about their compensation. The country’s leaders see a rapid drop in pay‑fairness complaints across age groups: 13 % of people aged 18‑26 say they are under‑paid, while only 5 % of those 55 and older feel the same— a reversal of the global trend.

South Korea and Sweden lead the list of markets with the biggest pay‑fairness concerns, 45 % and 39 % of workers, respectively, saying they receive unfair pay. Several other countries also report high levels, pointing to ongoing challenges in achieving equitable compensation.

Gender gaps remain sharp in many regions. Over 30 % of women in 15 of the 34 markets surveyed said they were paid unfairly, compared with just five markets where men reported the same. In India, a small edge appears among men: 12 % of male workers feel under‑paid versus 9 % of women.

“Fair pay is about trust,” says Rahul Goyal, Managing Director of ADP India and Southeast Asia. “When employees believe they’re paid fairly, they stay more engaged, motivated, and loyal.” Goyal stresses that employers must go beyond salary to offer equal opportunities, career growth, and recognition if they want long‑term employee commitment.

Last October, the global payroll and compliance platform Deel reported near‑equality in median salaries for men and women in India, ranging from $13,000 to $23,000. The data highlight a growing trend toward pay equity and data‑driven compensation models in the country.

For businesses, the takeaway is clear: keep compensation fair and transparent, and your workforce will reward you with higher morale and productivity.
