India’s real estate sector just got a big international boost. The Indian REITs Association (IRA) announced on Monday that it’s joining the newly formed Global REIT Alliance. This move connects India to a worldwide push for Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs), helping grow the industry on a global scale.
The Global REIT Alliance kicked off at the European Public Real Estate Association’s (EPRA) 2025 ReThink conference in Stockholm. It unites groups from 24 countries and regions, creating a single voice to champion REITs. The alliance focuses on sharing expert knowledge and setting shared standards to make REIT investing smoother and more appealing everywhere.
For India’s booming REIT market, this partnership is a major step forward. The sector has grown steadily in recent years, and now it stands taller in the global real estate investment scene.
Preeti Chheda, an executive committee member of the IRA and CFO of Mindspace Business Parks REIT, shared her excitement at the launch. “Becoming part of the Global REIT Alliance is a huge milestone for the Indian REIT market,” she said. “It gives us a key platform to team up with the global REIT community, swap market insights, and push REIT growth worldwide. We’re eager to help shape investment opportunities in REITs.”
The alliance has clear targets to achieve. It wants to spread awareness about REITs around the world, build strong international ties, advise governments on smart policies, develop voluntary industry standards, promote sustainable investing with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices, and provide solid access to market data.
Peter Verwer, spokesperson for the Global REIT Alliance, warmly welcomed India’s entry. “We’re thrilled to have the Indian REITs Association on board,” he said. “India’s REIT market has shown impressive growth in just a short time, and it’ll add fresh insights to our group. Together, we’ll build a stronger global REIT ecosystem, draw in more investors, and highlight REITs as a reliable, transparent way to invest in real estate.”
