Edappadi K Palaniswami, the Leader of Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly and AIADMK General Secretary, landed in New Delhi on Thursday. He’s set to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah during this key visit. Palaniswami, often called EPS, will also sit down with the newly elected Vice President CP Radhakrishnan.
This trip comes at a crucial time, just ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. The AIADMK and BJP plan to team up as allies to take on the ruling DMK government. Tamil Nadu politics is buzzing with excitement as parties gear up for the big battle.
Just a day earlier, Palaniswami gave a shoutout to the BJP for standing by AIADMK, especially after the sad passing of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, known as Amma. Speaking at a public event in Chennai to celebrate the birth anniversary of former CM CN Annadurai, he slammed the DMK government for messing up law and order in the state.
“Back when AIADMK was in power, and even today, the central government (BJP) never threatened us,” Palaniswami said. “Instead, they’ve always supported us. After Amma’s death, some tried to grab our party and even topple the government. But it was the Centre that stepped in to protect us. We can’t forget that kindness—it’s what poet Thiruvalluvar taught us about gratitude.” His words make it clear: no rifts between AIADMK and BJP.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu elections are heating up the political scene. Earlier this month, AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran pulled his party out of the NDA alliance, dealing a setback to the AIADMK-BJP tie-up. On another note, EPS recently sacked six party workers in Erode rural west district. All of them backed KA Sengottaiyan, who got booted from his party posts too.
As alliances shift and leaders meet, all eyes are on how this plays out for Tamil Nadu’s future.
